Questions Patients Often Ask

When should I see a urologist?
See a urologist if you have blood in urine, pain in the side or lower abdomen, burning or frequent urination, difficulty passing urine, recurrent urinary infections, kidney stones, or sexual health concerns.
Do kidney stones always need surgery?
No. Many small stones pass on their own with medicines and plenty of fluids. Surgery such as RIRS, URS or PCNL is advised for larger stones, stones causing blockage or infection, or stones that do not pass.
How long is the recovery after RIRS or PCNL?
Most patients go home within 1–2 days after RIRS and 2–3 days after PCNL, and return to routine work within a week, depending on the stone and overall health.
